Shimizunuma Park: From a former swamp to a residential area and cherry blossom viewing spot

Within a 30-minute walk from Sendai Station lies a small community park—Shimizunuma Park. Though modest in size, it boasts numerous cherry trees in full bloom, making it a favorite spot for locals to take their children for a stroll and enjoy the blossoms.

This area was once known as Shimizunuma, named by Date Masamune for its cool and clear waters. The swamp was originally much larger than the current park. Later, the high-quality spring water in the area led to the construction of the Kirin Beer factory. Today, it serves as a community park.

The park features shaded areas, a man-made stream, and playground facilities, making it ideal for children to play. In spring, visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms, while autumn brings vibrant foliage and golden ginkgo leaves. It's a peaceful spot to visit during the day, with few crowds and a relaxing atmosphere.
