━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Held annually from August 6-8, this is one of Japan's three major Tanabata festivals. Large Tanabata decorations line the entire shopping arcade, just outside Sendai Station, making it easy for tourists to find. Each store is responsible for decorating the area in front of their shop, so local businesses were particularly extravagant, and the chain store Tutuanna also had impressive, professional decorations.
For gourmet food, the classic beef tongue and zunda shake are a must-try. It's convenient for eating on the go, and the covered area means you can enjoy it safely even on hot days. For souvenirs, the Coelacanth Monaka is especially recommended. At the izakaya restaurant Gojumaru, which we visited in the evening, the sea squirts were exquisite, allowing us to fully enjoy the local flavors.
This summer festival allows you to enjoy sightseeing and gourmet food all at once, and the changing atmosphere between day and night is also an attractive feature. If you want to avoid the crowds, it's best to visit in the morning.
