For me, traveling to Jeju Island has never been just about chasing scenery, but more about experiencing the local "taste of life". And the most direct way to feel the daily life of Jeju people is to walk into the market. This time we came to the most famous and down-to-earth "Seogwipo Daily Market" in the south.

The entrance to the market is not exaggerated, but as soon as you step in, the strong aroma and the lively voices immediately hit you. This place doesn't look like a check-in spot designed by tourists, but a real life scene where locals come to buy in the morning, an old man sits in the corner peeling oranges, and Ajumma enthusiastically sells. This sense of reality made me fall in love as soon as I walked in.

We walked around and were soon attracted by the dazzling array of food. The aroma of abalone porridge filled the entire aisle, which was the taste of the fusion of Jeju's ocean and rice; the freshly fried seafood pancakes sizzled on the iron plate, filled with octopus and chopped green onions, and every bite was so crispy; the most surprising thing was the "Orange Juice Stand", which concentrated the fruity aroma of Jeju's sunshine. A cup of ₩3,000, sour, sweet and cold, it is definitely a must-try!

In addition to cooked food, we also saw many local specialties: kelp, dried eel, orange candy, fish cake skewers, and small octopus and fresh fish caught that day. The sellers were also very enthusiastic when they saw tourists, and would interact with you in simple English or gestures. Some even said "Try it ~ delicious ~" in Chinese, without any sense of distance at all.

I was particularly impressed by an Ajumma who sold black pork skewers. We bought two skewers, but she smiled and gave us an extra one with hot sauce, saying, "You are from Taiwan, right? Taiwanese people are very friendly, I want to be more friendly too." At that moment, I felt that this was not just a trip, but an emotional exchange across languages.

Although the market is not big, we spent almost two hours strolling around, eating and drinking to our heart's content, and bought some souvenirs, such as orange jam and small packages of dried fish, which were reasonably priced and of the same quality as those in large tourist shops. When we walked out of the market, the sky gradually darkened, and the setting sun shone through the glass skylight of the market, illuminating our hands full of food and smiles.

If you come to Jeju and only stay in Jeju City, you will miss this hidden food paradise. If you only go to Hyundai Department Store, you will miss these real human feelings and culture. "Seogwipo Daily Market" is the kind of place that is more interesting the slower you stroll, and it is a space where travelers and locals can coexist.
