Yesterday (February 18th) at 4:45 PM, I found **'Gojong's Road'** at the end of Deoksugung Stone Wall Road. It's only 120m short, but I felt the footsteps of history that Gojong walked when he fled to the Russian Legation in 1896. At around 5 PM, when the sunset reflected on the stone wall, the blue-green paint turned golden! The guide recommended, "If you're alone, go to the last staircase to see the sunset," so I quickly climbed up.
📌 Tips for solo travelers
Time zone: 4:40 PM - 5:10 PM (sunset + night lights overlap)
Hidden point: Check the back of the stone lantern with Japanese inscription from 1904 in the middle of the road
Recommendation: Iron bench at the end of the road toward Jeongdong Park → Harmonious view with the Seokjojeon Hall of Deoksugung Palace
Snack: Prevent hand tremors with a homemade chestnut latte (6,500 won) from nearby 'Jeongdong Coffee'
At 5:15 PM, I happened to see the night patrol light up the lighthouse. Even though it was cold, I took a picture of the pink sunset with my smartphone while sitting on the stairs and uploaded it to Instagram right away! 🌇 At around 5:25 PM, I heard the door close and turned around, and I could see the footsteps of Emperor Gojong from 120 years ago.
🚨 Note
Slippery stairs in winter (Winter boots required)
Closed on Mondays (Open from 9:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Sunday)
No tripods allowed (only hand-held shots allowed)
40 minutes of feeling the "short but heavy history" with your whole body! I plan to visit Gojong's Road again in the spring with cherry blossoms in the background. 🌸
※ Note: I heard from a local guide that AR guide service will start in March 2025!
