DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), towering over Dongdaemun, Seoul, is a design complex with a mysterious architecture that makes you feel as if you have wandered into a futuristic world. The streamlined design by architect Zaha Hadid reflects light with its silver exterior during the day and is illuminated at night, creating a different look depending on the time of day you visit.
The building houses design and art exhibitions and events, shops, cafes, and a vast outdoor space, making it a spot where you can experience Korea's cutting-edge culture. In particular, the Design Lab offers a selection of creative miscellaneous goods and interior items from Korea, making it a great place to find unique souvenirs.
On the day I visited, an art exhibition was being held, and I was overwhelmed by the installation works that made full use of cutting-edge video technology. The area around DDP is also in Dongdaemun's fashion district, so it's a great place to stop by between shopping. At night, the entire building is lit up, making it a popular photo spot.
DDP, where you can experience art and design in a futuristic space, is a recommended spot for those who want to stimulate their senses. You'll want to go back again and again because there are new exhibits and events to enjoy every time you visit.
Access Information
DDP is directly connected to Exit 1 of Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station on Subway Lines 2, 4, and 5, making it easily accessible. Dongdaemun Market and shopping malls are within walking distance, so you can enjoy sightseeing and shopping at the same time.
