Heunginjimun Park: by the City Wall

#cityplaybook
Heunginjimun Park offers a surprisingly tranquil and scenic escape right beside the historic Heunginjimun Gate (often called Dongdaemun). It's a wonderful spot to slow down and enjoy a breath of fresh air in bustling Seoul.
My recent visit revealed the park's lovely transformation. The "low and gentle uphill path" is truly a joy to walk, making it accessible for all. Along the way, you'll find inviting benches, perfect for a short rest or to simply soak in the atmosphere. The most striking feature during my visit was the "magnificent reed fields" (갈대밭) lining both sides of the path. While I had expected to see coreopsis flowers, the reeds, still showing a vibrant green but with hints of autumn's embrace, created a picturesque and calming setting. It's a beautiful way to witness the changing seasons in the city.
The park is seamlessly integrated with the Hanyangdoseong City Wall, with sections of the wall running alongside the walking path. This allows for a unique blend of nature and history. The view of the city wall amidst the reeds, especially on a clear day, is truly inspiring. It makes you feel like you could walk along the "uphill path for hours" without tiring.
Beyond the immediate park area, the texts mention that the Hanyangdoseong City Wall Museum is located further up the wall, providing an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the history of Seoul's ancient fortress.
If you're in the Dongdaemun area and looking for a peaceful and scenic spot for a walk, Heunginjimun Park is a must-visit. It's a fantastic starting point to experience a slice of the Hanyangdoseong City Wall Trail, and its seasonal beauty.
