As part of our DMZ tour, we made a stop at the War Memorial of Korea, and it turned out to be one of the most impactful parts of the day. After seeing the tension and history firsthand near the border, this museum helped put everything into a deeper and more emotional context.
The memorial is massive—both in scale and in meaning. The indoor galleries walk you through Korea’s military history, but what really stood out were the exhibits on the Korean War. From personal letters and uniforms to videos and life-size dioramas, everything was thoughtfully presented. The Statue of Brothers, depicting a North and South Korean soldier embracing, was especially moving.
Outside, the collection of tanks, planes, and naval vessels adds a whole other layer to the experience. Being able to walk among real military hardware and even step inside some of them made the history feel very real.
It wasn’t just educational—it was emotional. After visiting the DMZ, the War Memorial gave us a better understanding of what the war meant to the Korean people, and why peace remains such a fragile but important goal.
If you’re taking a DMZ tour and it includes this stop, don’t treat it as just a bonus—it’s an essential part of the story.
