During my visit to Seoul, I had the chance to explore the War Memorial of Korea, and it was an incredible experience. This massive museum beautifully documents Korea’s history and major conflicts, featuring both indoor exhibition halls and outdoor displays of military vehicles and monuments.
The museum is extremely well-designed and filled with fascinating exhibits. It covers a wide historical range — from the Three Kingdoms period (Koguryo, Baekje, and Silla), to Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s invasions of Korea (Bunroku and Keicho War), the Japanese colonial period, the Korean War, and even Korea’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
The variety of displays is truly impressive. Highlights include the replica Turtle Ship, fighter planes, and tanks, as well as the striking Kim Il Sung’s limousine, which adds a rare personal artifact to the collection. The outdoor vehicle display area also gives a powerful sense of scale and history.
I personally spent 4 hours here and only managed to cover about half of the exhibitions — so I would definitely recommend setting aside plenty of time. It’s a place where you can easily immerse yourself in Korea’s complex history.
