Gwanghwamun is the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul’s grandest royal palace. Located at the north end of Sejong-ro in Jongno District, it’s an enduring symbol of Korean sovereignty and architectural elegance. Built in 1395 during King Taejo’s founding of Joseon, its name means Destroyed during the Japanese invasions (Imjin War, 1592–1598) and migrated/remodeled multiple times during colonial rule and the Korean War .
