Walking through the Hanok Alley in Ikseon-dong, you'll come across "Silladang Ikseon," a cafe offering a unique take on traditional desserts.
Rather than the typical bakery or cake shop, this cafe specializes in serving traditional desserts like juak, yakgwa, and jeonggwa, presented in a sophisticated manner.
Upon entering, the first thing that catches your eye is the interior decorated with mother-of-pearl. The sparkling mother-of-pearl, combined with the soft lighting, evoked the feeling of stepping into an old traditional Korean home. This detail, rarely seen in other cafes, further enhanced the traditional Korean aesthetic.
When I received the juak and yakgwa, delicately arranged on a traditional tea set and plate at each table, I felt like I was being treated to a small tea ceremony, not just a dessert. The jeonggwa was sweet yet had a natural fruity flavor, while the yakgwa had a rich yet not-overpowering honey flavor, pairing perfectly with warm tea.
The quiet atmosphere made me feel as if time had stopped for a moment, even amidst the bustling Ikseon-dong Hanok Village. Especially sitting by the window and savoring traditional desserts, I felt like even foreign friends could truly experience the charm of Korea.
From the tranquility of a hanok (traditional Korean house), to the elegance of mother-of-pearl interiors, to the exquisite traditional desserts... "Silladang Ikseon" is a special space where tradition and modernity meet. I highly recommend stopping by if you visit Ikseon-dong.
