The requirement of a guided tour for entry to the Huwon, while occasionally limiting flexibility, is actually one of its greatest strengths. Our guide provided fascinating historical anecdotes about the kings who used this space for relaxation, contemplation, and even archery. Learning the significance of each pavilion—like the thatched-roof Cheonguijeong and the L-shaped water channel of Ongnyucheon—deepens the appreciation of the subtle genius of the design. Be prepared for a fair amount of uphill and downhill walking, but the slow, guided pace allows you to soak it all in.
