Quiet Charm in Off-Season
I visited during the slightly off-peak season of early December, catching the garden just after the peak fall foliage had passed, but before the heavy snow. Even in this "barren" phase, the garden was quietly enchanting. The way the light filtered through the bare branches, casting long shadows over the ponds and the unpainted wooden structures of Nakseonjae (which extends into the garden area), gave it a beautifully austere and timeless feeling. It highlighted the strength of the natural forms and the persistent lines of the architecture against the changing seasons. The bare trees revealed hidden angles and views I might have missed in the lush summer. Huwon proves its beauty is inherent and not solely dependent on seasonal color bursts, offering a thoughtful experience any time of year.
