[Shanghai Donglin Temple] The 10,000 Buddha statues are a sight to behold

Donglin Temple is located in Jinshan District, southern Shanghai, and is an ancient temple built in 1308 during the Yuan Dynasty. The Guanyin Pavilion houses the world's largest indoor Thousand-Armed Kannon, 34.1 meters tall. In addition to its size, the number of faces and hands is simply overwhelming, and you find yourself clasping your hands together. There are also as many as 10,000 Buddhas on the three sides of the Thousand-Armed Kannon, and the Thousand Buddhas Gate at the entrance has 999 Buddhas, so you are surrounded by more Buddhas than you can imagine. When you look at Donglin Temple from the outside, the body is a small hill (actually a building), with hands clasped together. On top of that is a face, which, if I may say so myself, looks a little unnatural. Why? When you get closer, you'll understand. Many Buddhas are stuck together to make a face. I've never seen anything like this before. (Is it Chinese culture that the nose is a dragon?) There are so many Buddhas at Donglin Temple that you lose track of how many Buddhas you've seen. Admission fee: 30 yuan
Visiting hours: 8:00-16:30
