Shanghai is a vibrant, bustling city, and our favorite place to go for a quick getaway from Suzhou. Shanghai is connected by high-speed rail, taking less than 30 minutes to arrive from downtown Suzhou. If coming from neighboring Jiangsu, its easy to come in on Saturday morning and go home Sunday night.
Here’s our perfect weekend itinerary for repeat visitors:
Saturday
🔸Take a fast train in to Shanghai Railway station in the morning.
🔸After arriving, find a place to try some xiao long bao (soup dumplings).
🔸Take the subway over to the Long Museum in the West Bund for contemporary art and culture.
🔸Grab dinner and head over to the Bund for cocktails. There are lots of great hotel rooftop bars with amazing views of both sides of the river.
Sunday
🔸Visit the observation deck at Shanghai Tower. The incredible views from the 118th floor stretch for miles!
🔸Stop by Jing’an temple to soak up culture and see the temple’s architecture juxtaposed with neighboring towers.
🔸Grab a ginger coffee at Metal Hands before taking the train home. (It’s the cute coffee that looks like it has a little egg on it!☺️)
