Yu Garden is a classical garden built in the Ming Dynasty. It is located in Huangpu District, Shanghai, China. It is in the northeast of the former Old Town of Shanghai, bordering Fuyou Road to the north, Anren Street to the east, and the City God Temple and Yu Garden Shopping Mall to the southwest. Yu Garden was built in 1559. It was originally a private garden of Pan Yunduan, the governor of Sichuan. He built this garden for the purpose of "pleasuring his elderly parents". "Yu" and "Yu" have similar meanings, so the garden was named Yu Garden.[1] Afterwards, Yu Garden passed through many hands and suffered the ravages of war many times. Today it is a typical representative of Jiangnan gardens and has become a tourist attraction in Shanghai.
