I love this lesser-known, breezy spot in Shanghai more than the Bund🌉
If the Bund belongs to tourists, then this neighborhood in Shanghai’s old city is a sanctuary for locals~
This area used to be a foreign concession and the site of many foreign firms, with tons of Western-style houses and large gardens—definitely a top-tier wealthy district! Today, it still preserves a large number of exquisite Republic of China-era Western-style houses, original old buildings, and countless local snacks. It’s great for strolling and photography, with direct subway access—perfect for a city walk~
🚶♀ Route plan: Hunan Road ➠ Xingguo Road ➠ Xingguo Hotel ➠ West Fuxing Road ➠ Wuyuan Road ➠ Taian Road ➠ Yuqing Road ➠ Tianping Road
🚇 Transportation: Metro Jiaotong University Station Exit 7 (Line 10, Line 11)
✅ Recommended features
• Hunan Road: Quaint street-facing Western-style houses, quiet and leisurely~
• Xingguo Road: Large detached Western-style houses and Republic of China apartments, with sycamore shadows, full of romance~
• Xingguo Hotel: Over 20 villas in different styles from the Republic of China era, preserving historical features, plus nearly a hundred tall ancient trees~
• West Fuxing Road, Wuyuan Road, Taian Road, Yuqing Road: Beautiful Republic of China buildings and old houses, colorful facades, peeling paint, diverse window frames, full of character~
📣 Tips
▫ You can explore it all in 2 to 4 hours on foot~
▫ On a sunny afternoon, every snapshot under the light and shadow is stunning~
▫ When tired, find a café for a coffee—so relaxing~
▫ Parking is difficult in busy areas, so taking the subway is recommended~
Nearby spots to visit: Wukang Road, Soong Ching Ling’s Former Residence~ Come experience the unique charm here~😜
