The Maglev train is a high-speed train that can reach a maximum speed of up to 431 kilometers per hour. Since I arrived, I wanted to try riding it to see how fast it really is.
📍Location: Board from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Longyang Road Station and transfer to the regular subway line.
🛬How to get on the Maglev: After arriving at Shanghai Pudong Airport, collect your luggage and follow the signs that say Maglev. It’s not a long walk, and you will find the ticket counter.
🕰️Operating hours: 06:45 AM - 9:42 PM.
💰Average price per person: 50 yuan or about 250 baht per trip. If you buy a round-trip ticket, it costs 80 yuan or about 400 baht.
💸Ticket purchase: There are 2 options: 1. Buy at the counter from a staff member 2. Buy from the automatic machine and pay by scanning with Alipay (option 2 avoids long queues).
🚊Train schedule: Trains depart every 20 minutes. After buying a ticket, there is a waiting area with seats. The platform opens before the train arrives.
💺Actual speed: From my experience, the Maglev runs at a maximum speed of about 300 kilometers per hour, taking approximately 8 minutes from Pudong Airport to Longyang Road Station. The feeling while riding is not extremely fast.
✅ Pros: Fast travel, time-saving, a chance to try one of the world’s top high-speed trains, a good experience. Few people, enough seats, not crowded, unlike regular trains which can be crowded and have insufficient seating.
❎ Cons: Quite expensive at 50 yuan compared to the regular train which costs only 8 yuan, and you still have to transfer to the regular subway to get to your accommodation.
💞Recommendation: Suitable for those with limited travel time who want to get into the city before nightfall quickly. But if you have time or want to save money, you can take the regular subway.
