Introducing Jiujiang Wulao Peak

Wulao Peak is located southeast of Mount Lushan in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. Because the mountain's summit is separated by a pass, it forms five parallel peaks. Looking up, they resemble five old men seated on the ground, hence the collective name "Wulao Peak." Connecting to Poyang Lake, its peaks touch the sky, reaching 1,436 meters above sea level. While slightly lower than Dahanyang Peak, it surpasses it in grandeur and is the most majestic and treacherous scenic spot on the entire mountain.

The Five Elders, who studied the scriptures and preached the Way in ancient times, were known as Celestial Gods or Celestial Venerables in historical accounts. In astrological hexagrams, they are: Qingling Shi Lao Tianzun, representing the East, wood, and the color blue; Danling Zhen Lao Tianzun, representing the South, fire, and the color red; Huangling Yuan Lao Tianzun, representing the Center, earth, and the color yellow; Haoling Su Lao Tianzun, representing the West, gold, and the color white; and Yiling Xuan Lao Tianzun, representing the North, water, and the color black. The Five Elders Temple honors these five Celestial Gods.

From this, we know that Wulao Mountain was the place where the Five Elders hid themselves, carrying the "Hetu" and "Luoshu" scriptures and teachings, where they studied hexagrams, practiced cultivation, and preached the scriptures. It was the place where Yixue culture was spread during its founding period and the cradle of Heluo culture. This is the origin of Wulao Mountain.

Climate and best time to travel

The subtropical monsoon climate and high temperatures in summer make it a great place for hiking and summer travel.

Recommended number of days and locations for visiting

From every angle, the mountain's appearance changes: some resemble a poet chanting, some a warrior singing, some a fisherman fishing, and some a monk sitting cross-legged. The most authentic view of the Five Old Peaks is from Haihui Temple in Haihui Town, Lushan District. The third peak is the most precipitous, with its myriad of bizarre rocks and formations, a magnificent spectacle of majestic beauty. The fourth peak is the highest, its summit crowned by twisted pine trees. Below it are five smaller peaks: Lion Peak, Golden Seal Peak, Stone Ship Peak, Soaring Cloud Peak, and Flagpole Peak. Further below are Guanyin Cliff and Lion Cliff, with Qinglian Temple nestled in the valley behind.
