The Shanghai Astronomy Museum, opened in 2021 in Pudong’s Lingang New City, is the largest planetarium in the world, covering ~38,000 m² of exhibition space and ~58,600 m² of total footprint . Designed by Ennead Architects with curves that echo celestial motion, the building acts as a giant astronomical instrument featuring an oculus, sphere planetarium, and inverted dome . Inside are three major zones—Home, Cosmos, Journey—plus themed exhibits like Journey to Mars and an 8K dome theater, all with interactive displays and cultural astronomy narratives in both Chinese and English . A rooftop platform allows stargazing and panoramic views.
Step into Shanghai’s monumental astronomy museum—where art and science merge under sweeping curves that mimic orbital motion. From the sun‑tracking oculus and massive planetarium sphere to immersive exhibits on Earth, space, and China’s astronomical heritage, the museum offers a breathtaking journey. It’s a cosmic cathedral for discovery, exploration, and wonder.
