Walking from Nanjing Road (南京路 / Nanjing Lu) → The Bund (外滩 / Waitan) → Rockbund (外滩源 / Rockbund / Luo Ke Wai Tan Yuan) is a walking route that offers a multifaceted experience of Shanghai's atmosphere—from bustling shopping areas to the riverside with its ancient architecture and classic and modern art alleys.
Nanjing Road is the main shopping area, lined with Chinese and international brand shops, street food, and bustling crowds.
Following the east end of Nanjing Road, you'll connect to The Bund—the banks of the Huangpu River, lined with ancient European buildings and skyscrapers on the opposite side.
From The Bund, it's a short walk to Rockbund—located "adjacent" to the north of The Bund, a redeveloped subdistrict with galleries, cafes, restaurants, and public spaces.
