This is a true hidden gem in Shanghai! Located right next to the exit of People's Square Station on Metro Line 2, it's incredibly convenient and completely free. It's relatively untouched and can be easily explored in about 90 minutes.
Why You Must Visit? Three Stunning Features
This exhibition hall isn't just a record of the past; it's a magnificent urban time machine, offering a glimpse into Shanghai's transformation from a fishing village to a world-class metropolis.
✓ The Charm of Historical Detail:
The exhibition is rich in content, showcasing every historical shift, from the Qing Dynasty city walls to the concession period, with meticulously detailed models and panels. The detail in the reconstruction of the old concession cityscape in the basement is particularly breathtaking.
✓ A Breathtaking Future:
The true essence of the exhibition is its focus on Shanghai's future. An imposing, massive city model, occupying an entire floor, visually and dynamically depicts Shanghai's ambitious vision for 2035 and 2050. Its scale and energy are unparalleled elsewhere. Meanwhile, a two-story 4D giant screen offers an immersive bird's-eye view of the entire city.
✓ Highlights and Minors:
Don't forget the fifth-floor café, which offers sweeping views of People's Square Park. However, the "virtual world" experience area on the fourth floor was mediocre, and I wouldn't recommend waiting in line.
Summary: A perfect place to delve into the soul of Shanghai
While it may not be a "must-have" stop on your itinerary, if you have the time, I highly recommend a visit. Nowhere else can you experience the city's rich history and grand future like here. This is a fantastic opportunity to deeply experience the soul of Shanghai.
