If you're in Shanghai and looking for an educational and exciting place for the whole family, we highly recommend the Shanghai Natural History Museum (SNHM). It's not just any museum, but a world-class architecture designed in a shell/spiral shape, looking incredibly futuristic and beautiful! Located in Jing'an Sculpture Park, the surroundings are lush and inviting, even before entering.
🚀 Must-see highlights (photo opportunities)
1. The River of Life & Dinosaurs Zone 🦖: This signature zone is a must-visit! Discover massive dinosaur fossil skeletons, particularly the 26-meter-long Mamenchisaurus, and the blue whale skeleton hanging in the center of the hall. The exhibits are incredibly realistic (some even move and make sounds).
2. African Savannah Safari 🐘: This zone showcases over 1,500 stuffed animals from Africa and around the world, presented in incredibly realistic settings! You'll get to see elephants, giraffes, and rhinos up close, feeling like you're actually walking through a safari. (This is a favorite spot for kids.)
3. Nature Art 🦋: For art lovers, don't miss the "Butterfly Wing Mosaic," a beautiful and delicate mural made from thousands of butterfly wings.
💡 Important Information and Trip Tips
- Travel Time: We recommend allowing at least 4-5 hours, as the museum spans five floors and is packed with exhibits.
- Ticket Booking: Most importantly, you'll need an admission ticket (approximately CNY 30-45 for adults) and a passport.
- Recommended Time: Arrive before the museum opens (9:00 AM) or in the late afternoon to avoid the crowds of tour groups and students during the day.
- Transportation: Very convenient. Take the subway Line 13 to Natural History Museum Station, Exit 1. It's a short walk away.
