Xiaodao Fishing Village is located to the east of Fengshan Street, surrounded by the sea. It is named Xiaodao (meaning "small island") due to its geographical position as an island within Pinqing Lake in Shanwei City. It is also known as Yuzai. The village, built during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, primarily relies on fishing and aquaculture for livelihood. Due to the small size of the island, there are no motor vehicles, and residents mainly use bicycles and electric scooters.
To visit, you can take a bus to Yuzai Island Station in Shanwei City, then board a ferry at Xiaodao Village Ferry Terminal to cross to the island. The ferry ride takes about 1-2 minutes and departs once full.
There aren't many attractions on the island, but you can wander through the village alleys to get a glimpse of the fishermen's lifestyle. The white walls and black-tiled roofs of the houses, arranged in a charmingly irregular manner, add to the unique appeal. Following the main path through the village to its end, you'll find a small beach park, which is quiet and ideal for children to play. For a panoramic view of Shanwei City, you can hike to the highest peak of the island, where a small pavilion offers a resting spot and a stunning view of the city. However, the hiking trail is rarely used and surrounded by numerous graves.
