Shaoshan Family Trip and Homestay Experience

Traveling with children, we always hope to combine education with fun, allowing them to gain knowledge and grow while playing. This time, we chose the red revolutionary site Shaoshan, visited Chairman Mao's former residence, and stayed in a unique homestay. It satisfied our children's curiosity about history and let our whole family enjoy a warm time amidst green mountains and clear waters. This travelogue will detail our itinerary, accommodation experience, and educational insights, hoping to provide a reference for families planning to bring their children to Shaoshan.

Preparation before the trip: Pass application and itinerary planning: After booking the homestay, the owner contacted us to handle the pass and sent us suggestions for Shaoshan’s attractions and itinerary, which was super thoughtful.

For the itinerary, we decided on a relaxed two-day trip to avoid the fatigue of rushing:
· Afternoon of the first day: Arrive at the homestay, settle in, get familiar with the environment, and watch Zhang Yimou’s film "Remembering Shaoshan" in the evening.

· Full day on the second day: In-depth visit to Comrade Mao Zedong’s Former Residence, Nan’an Private School, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, and the Relics Museum.

· Morning of the third day: Tour Dripping Water Cave Scenic Area before returning home.
This arrangement ensured ample rest time and allowed the children to fully satisfy their curiosity at each attraction.

We also loved the homestay, perfect for family trips. The kids had so much fun playing in the water!

Dining:
The hotel’s ingredients are all “self-supplied,” very fresh. Lunch and dinner can be pre-ordered, and the housekeeper will notify us when the meals are ready.

Every day, snacks are delivered to the room, and afternoon tea can be enjoyed at the outdoor leisure tables and chairs.

Service:
One-on-one housekeeper service. Even before check-in, we received homestay information and sightseeing suggestions. If we had other needs, we could tell the housekeeper. The entire stay was very worry-free!
