Fenghui Ancient Town is located southeast of Shangyu City, at the western foot of Siming Mountain, the source of the Yao River, about 15 kilometers from Shangyu City.
As early as the second year of the Tang Dynasty's Changqing period, in 822 AD, Fenghui has been the seat of Shangyu County. This history of being both a town and a city continued until 1954, after the liberation, lasting for more than 1100 years.
Fenghui, as an ancient county town of Shangyu with a rich historical heritage, is known as 'Eight Streets and Forty Alleys.' Walking on the old streets of Fenghui, the thousand-year-old imprints, like the water of the ancient canal, flow endlessly. The most recommended places to visit on the old street are:
Jiushi Bridge: Built in the Yuan Dynasty, it spans the central street river of Fenghui Town. It is a majestic and ancient dry-laid stone arch bridge, named after the nine stone lions on the original bridge railings. It is the oldest and best-preserved stone arch bridge in Shangyu District.
Kedi Archway: Since ancient times, the people of Fenghui have been honest, diligent in farming and weaving, and thrifty. They revered literature and respected teachers. During the Song Dynasty, the county school and several academies were established. To encourage local students to study and achieve fame, the 'Kedi Archway' was erected on East Street to honor those who passed the imperial examinations.
Fenghui Bridge: Located on the central street river of the town, it is oriented north-south. Originally a round-hole bridge with stone steps, it has now been converted into an arched bridge that allows vehicle passage.
Fenghui Hall of Distinguished Figures: In ancient times, Fenghui had Wei Boyang, the pioneer of modern chemistry, and Meng Taishou, a model of ancient honest officials. In modern times, there were Wang Yifei, Ye Tiandi, Hu Yu, Fan Shoukang, Wu Jianong, and others, who were outstanding talents and gained great fame.
