Legendary Four Beauties 'Wang Zhaojun' Hand-Washing Stream: Xiangxi Source

Xiangxi Source Scenic Area is located in Muyu Town within the Shennongjia Forest Area. It is a small tributary of the Yangtze River, featuring several waterfalls, bridges, pavilions, and waterwheels. The area is lush and serene, maintaining its primitive tranquility.

The name 'Xiangxi' comes from a beautiful story. It is said that one of the Four Beauties, 'Wang Zhaojun,' once lived by the stream and often washed her hands in its waters, making the stream fragrant. Additionally, the source of Xiangxi is abundant with blooming orchids, filling the area with their scent, hence the name 'Xiangxi' (Fragrant Stream).

Xiangxi Source is the origin of the Xiangxi River, which flows through Xingshan and into Zigui, eventually merging with the Yangtze River. It spans a total length of 96 kilometers. It is said that during the Tang Dynasty, the tea sage Lu Yu visited the source of Xiangxi, tasted the stream water, and was so delighted that he ranked it as the fourteenth best spring in the world. Consequently, Xiangxi Source became renowned for its tea production.
