Shennongjia winter travel guide, this is all you need

When everyone else was heading to the northeast, I went to Hubei. It turned out to be a wise choice, and I was rewarded with a stunning white Shennongjia.

In addition to heavy snow, rime, and snow scenery, there are also exciting skiing activities and many attractions worth visiting. Four days and three nights, simply perfect.

Snow season and snow quality

The snow season lasts for 150 days, and the snow is soft, which is very friendly to skiing beginners. The average daytime temperature is above 0°C, so it won't be particularly cold. From late December to February is the best time to enjoy the snow. According to the forecast, there will be snow from January 31 to February 10, so if you want to see snow, you can go during this period.

Transportation

- High-speed rail: Take the train to Yichang East Station.
- Plane: Arrive at Sanxia Airport. Fly directly from Guangzhou to Yichang, with a minimum transfer fee of only CNY 386 in February.

Recommended activities

1. Longjiangping Ski Resort: Compared with the international ski resort, there are fewer people, and you can enjoy the fun of having the place to yourself if you go during off-peak hours. The snow quality is good and very friendly to beginners. You can ski during the day and at night to your heart's content.
2. Shennongding: The main peak of Shennongjia, where you can overlook the magnificent scenery of the entire Shennongjia. There are alpine meadows and virgin forests, and the scenery after the snow in winter is even more beautiful.
3. Three Gorges Dam: One of the largest water conservancy projects in the world. Climb to Tanziling to overlook the whole dam. You can also visit the Interception Park to learn about the history of the Three Gorges Project.
4. Golden Monkey Ridge: The virgin forest of Shennongjia, with rich vegetation and wildlife. The forest after the snow is like a fairy tale world.
5. Dajiu Lake National Wetland Park: Unique alpine wetland landscape. It will be covered with ice and snow in winter, like a fairyland.

Recommended food

1. Tujia sauce pancake: Local specialty food, crispy and delicious.
2. Wild mushroom stewed chicken: Made with local wild mushrooms and native chicken, it is delicious.
3. Shennongjia cured meat: Cured meat is a traditional local delicacy, including cured ribs, cured fish, etc.
4. Wild vegetable cake: Made with wild vegetables, it is soft and glutinous.

Itinerary

Day 1: Yichang - Three Gorges Dam

After arriving in Yichang, head to the Three Gorges Dam. Climb to Tanziling to overlook the whole dam. Visit the 185 Park to experience the grandeur of the dam up close. In the afternoon, go to the Interception Park to learn about the past and present of the Three Gorges Project.

Day 2: Three Gorges Dam - Shennongjia

Depart from Yichang to Shennongjia in the morning. After arriving in Shennongjia, check into the forest hotel. In the afternoon, go to the nearby ski resort to experience the fun of skiing.

Day 3: Shennongding - Longjiangping International Ski Resort

Go to Shennongding in the morning to enjoy the snow scenery and rime. Climb to the top of the mountain to overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire Shennongjia. In the afternoon, go to Longjiangping International Ski Resort and enjoy skiing.

Day 4: Shennongjia - Return

Take a walk near the hotel in the morning to enjoy the snow scenery. Then pack your luggage and return.

Reminders

1. Weather and clothing: The temperature in February is -12~10°C, mostly cloudy and snowy. Bring sweaters, windproof thick coats, hats, gloves, scarves, raincoats, etc.
2. Ski equipment: Ski equipment can be rented at the ski resort. If you have your own equipment, you can also bring it.
3. Safety: Pay attention to safety when skiing and follow the rules of the ski resort.
