Shenzhen's Dawanshiju🏚 is definitely not an ordinary ancient village - if you've heard of the legend of Guangdong's richest man, three wives plus 11 children, more than 400 rooms in the house, you know how exciting the story here is! This time I made a special trip to Pingshan, Shenzhen to take a closer look at this wealthy family building complex and experience the daily life of a wealthy family in the past.
Dawan World House Highlights Strategy
This is not just a museum of ancient architecture - there are garden-style layouts, winding alleys, and carved window panes that blend Chinese and Western architectural elements. Every detail highlights the life aesthetics and family glory of traditional wealthy families. The site still retains the old-style furnishings. After watching it, you not only feel the rich history, but also feel a bit of "exploring the mansion"!
Detailed inventory of attractions
📍Da Wan Shi Ju
- Address: No. 33, Dawan Road, Penghuan Community, Mashan Street, Pengshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province

Once you enter Dawan Shiju, you will see an ultra-long bluestone slab road, flanked by densely packed and well-proportioned courtyards, many of which still retain their original appearance a hundred years ago. There is also a hidden milk tea 🍵 coffee ☕️ small shop, American coffee or hand-beaten lemon tea are all 👍 If you have a photography addiction, whether the path, roof, brick carving, window flowers are very out of the film, it is recommended to bring a wide angle lens!
Tips & real insights
It is said that "three wives, 11 children, more than 400 rooms", you will not only see the traces of family disturbance, but also find every detail worth playing - for example, the layout between different courtyards, reflecting the large family living in layers, everyone keeps their own space but The big stage in front of the ancestral hall was the core stage of the Shen family's ceremonies and festivals in the past. Looking back today, you can feel the strength and cohesion of the family; if you like humanistic stories, don't miss a few chats with the old residents. Many of them know the secrets of their ancestors!
Practical strategy
Access: From downtown Shenzhen, take the subway or bus to Pengshan Station and walk or Didi to Dawanshiju (about half an hour’s drive).
User Advice: Since most of the rooms are not open to the public, it is recommended to focus on the main hall, ancestral hall and public courtyard when visiting. The museum is closed on Mondays. Please arrange your time.
Food recommendations
After visiting the ancient village, you can find authentic Hakka snacks at the intersection of Peng Huan Community Street, such as savory Hakka stuffed tofu, potato flour dumplings, and stewed turtle dumplings. A simple meal will make you feel like the countryside of Putian.
Summary
Dawanshiju is a scene that travels through time and space, making people rethink the meaning of “home”. Every alley is filled with stories, every brick and tile preserves the rise and fall of the family - if you yearn for in-depth cultural travel, or want to see the extraordinary handwriting of the "Putian Shen Wanshan" family, Shenzhen Pengshan is definitely worth a visit!
