We spent a relaxing day exploring Ikaho Onsen, one of Gunma’s most charming hot spring towns. The highlight of the visit was the 365-step stone staircase, lined with traditional inns, souvenir shops, and snack stalls — perfect for leisurely strolling and tasting local treats as we climbed.
Along the way, we stopped by the Former Residence of the Hawaiian Minister, a beautifully preserved villa that once belonged to the diplomatic envoy from the Kingdom of Hawaii during its time as an independent nation. From its windows, we admired the lush greenery and tranquil atmosphere — a reminder of the deep historical ties between Japan and Hawaii.
Ikaho’s blend of history, culture, and nature makes it a wonderful destination for a weekend escape. Whether you come for the hot springs, the views, or the retro charm of the stone steps, it’s sure to soothe your soul.
