I went to Shimoda in Shizuoka Prefecture☺️
Shimoda is known for its beautiful sea, but it is also a city that is well-known historically.
Shimoda is a port town that was the stage for the opening of Japan to the world at the end of the Edo period.
Perry arrived from America and the Treaty of Peace and Amity was signed there.
The first photo is the monument to Perry's landing
The second and third photos are Perry Road.
There were cafes and stylish shops on Perry Road☺️
(The last photo shows what I had at a retro cafe.)
In Shimoda, I was able to see Zuiryuzan Gyokusenji Temple, the first US Consulate General in Japan, and statues of Yoshida Shoin and Sakamoto Ryoma.
It was a very educational day on a trip that touched history☺️
