This post town, lined with thatched roofs, feels like a time travel back to the Edo period.

This area developed as a post town on the Shimotsuke Kaido, connecting Imaichi City in Tochigi with Aizu-Wakamatsu.

After walking along the road for a while,
a towering torii gate, seemingly carved out of wood, stood before me.
It was the torii gate of Takasugi Shrine, which watches over Ouchi-juku.

If you go straight ahead, you'll come to a small hill at the very back,
and this is a popular photo spot.

Ouchi-juku is made up of hipped-roof buildings,
lined with souvenir shops, soba restaurants, and guesthouses,
where you can purchase folk crafts, pickles, rice crackers, dumplings, mochi, and more.

No matter where I went,
everyone was a good talker, had a spirit of hospitality,
and they even gave me a can of coffee when I bought mochi or alcohol.

There are also seasonal events, such as the "Water Discharge," "Snow Festival," and "Hanaga Festival" held on Disaster Prevention Day.
It's a wonderful spot I'd like to visit again.
