Shinjuku District (Shinjuku / 新宿)

Review of Shinjuku – A bustling city that somehow quiets the soul

Shinjuku is not just a central district in Tokyo; it’s a world that never sleeps. It’s filled with skyscrapers, giant LED screens, and ever-changing advertisements. Trains constantly come and go from the world’s busiest station, and people rush past each other without even glancing. Yet, strangely enough, I feel most connected to myself here.

🚉 Starting at Shinjuku Station — it’s massive, chaotic, and complex. But once you step outside, you’ll find a small ramen shop along a narrow street. The sound of slurping ramen and the sight of low wooden stools can easily reset a tiring day.

🛍️ One side of Shinjuku is packed with large malls, clothing stores, bookstores, and Don Quijote shops. But just turn into a nearby alley, and you’ll discover Golden Gai — a row of small bars illuminated by dim neon lights. Walk a bit further, and you’ll find Shinjuku Gyoen, a large park in the heart of the city that feels like a different world entirely.

✨ Shinjuku is like a play with multiple scenes unfolding simultaneously. It has noise, urgency, loneliness, warmth, and truth. It’s a place where people come to "walk," but many end up "pausing."

🌸 Shinjuku isn’t just about chaos. It has a rhythm that makes you quietly say to yourself, "Thank you… for places like this in a world that moves too fast."
