🇯🇵 Admire the beauty of nature — Senjojiki and Sandanbeki

Senjojiki and Sandanbeki are both natural phenomena in Wakayama Prefecture. They are only about a 15-minute walk apart, so you can consider both attractions when planning your trip.

The "叠" in senjoshiki means "tatami" and "覆" means to spread, so "senjoshiki" means "one thousand tatami mats stacked together." Senjojiki was formed by the continuous erosion of the waves. Standing there, you can feel the powerful force of nature.

Since the coast of Wakayama Prefecture mainly faces the Pacific Ocean to the west, there are many places where you can see beautiful sunsets. The sunset view at Senjojiki was also selected as one of the "100 Best Sunsets in Wakayama Prefecture". Watching the sun slowly set into the boundless Pacific Ocean is also worth seeing.

Three-stage wall

About 1 km from Senjojiki is the Sandanbeki, which stretches for about 2 km.

Like a screen on the sea, the Sandanbeki is a cliff 50 to 60 meters high and stretches for about 2 kilometers from north to south. Here you can not only see the turbulent waves hitting the cliffs, but also the sound of the sea water and the rock walls hitting each other will bring you a shocking feeling. The trail near the cliff leads directly to the observation deck, which is an excellent spot to view the entire natural landscape of the Sandanbeki.

The other three sections of the wall have caves where pirates once hid. The entrance to the cave is located near the observation deck. The cave is 36 meters deep from the ground. Visitors can take the elevator in and out. There are many historical materials on display about the battles with pirates at that time. If you are interested, you can also go and visit.
