Shizuoka | Kuretake Inn, a nostalgic Showa-era hotel, offers a cozy retreat like your grandma's home.

Do you like the Showa style? Then this hotel might suit your taste. The Showa style doesn't mean the hotel is old-fashioned, but rather that the decor and furnishings evoke the aesthetics of the Showa era, and the hotel is overall clean and comfortable.

First, the location: it's a three- or four-minute walk from Shizuoka Station, and there's a convenient convenience store nearby. The beds were slightly firm, and although I booked a single room, they were generously given twins. The headboard faced the window, and the wooden blinds were a design I haven't seen in a while. The soundproofing was excellent, and the air conditioning was powerful. The lobby on the first floor makes good use of the space, selling everything tourists might need. The black and white marble tiles create a timeless atmosphere. Interestingly, the front desk staff are all grandparents, friendly and attentive without being overly enthusiastic.

The large public bath is small, but clean and comfortable, and the toiletries are from the Camellia series. A day spent in the hot springs followed by a bottle of milk is a truly enjoyable experience.
Breakfast is also very Showa-style. The aroma of curry hits you as soon as you enter, just like back at grandma's house, where she's always worried you're not full. Of course, toast and side dishes are also available.
