Shodoshima is an island that floats in the Seto Inland Sea off the coast of Kagawa Prefecture.
In recent years, it has become popular for its olive cultivation and for the fact that you can take pictures dressed as Kiki from the Ghibli film "Kiki's Delivery Service" in front of the windmill at the roadside station.
Another attraction on Shodoshima is Angel Road.
It is a mysterious marine phenomenon called a "tombolo," in which a road appears between the land and the island due to the ebb and flow of the tides.
There is a superstition that if a couple crosses this road holding hands, they will be happy, so it is also famous as a sacred place for lovers.
By the way, the Bell of Happiness is also located at the observation deck.
When visiting Angel Road, be sure to check the low tide times in advance! Information is provided on the official website, etc.
It would be sad if you went there and the road hadn't appeared...
The tourist information center near Angel Road also displayed the time it appeared that day.
By the way,
Shodoshima actually has another "Angel Road," commonly known as the "Road of Hope."
It's located in an area called Minamikazedai in the eastern part of Shodoshima.
The landmark is the sign for the "Road of Hope" that you can see at the top of the hill.
The Road of Hope is shorter and smaller than the original Angel Road, but the water is very clear and the scenery is just as beautiful as the original! Above all, there are far fewer tourists, so you can enjoy the view at your leisure.
The island that floats in front of the Road of Hope is called "Jogashima" and is said to have once been the site of the Benzaiten shrine.
The name "Road of Hope" is said to have originally come from a TV drama that was filmed here a long time ago, and it is said to contain the wish that "if you walk along this road while praying for your wish to come true, your wish will come true."
