📍Datong is located in the north of Shanxi. Since ancient times, it has been of great strategic significance to the northern grassland civilization and the Han civilization in the Central Plains. It is a must-go place for northern ethnic minorities to invade the Central Plains.
❗️The Northern Wei Tuoba clan built its capital here. The Liao and Jin dynasties used this place as a secondary capital (Xijing). After the Ming Dynasty moved its capital to Beijing, Datong became an important town to protect the capital. Therefore, it also left behind a large number of important cultural treasures from various periods.
‼ ️The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, built in the Liao and Jin Dynasties, as well as the Huayan Temple and the Hanging Temple of the Northern Wei Dynasty are the most essential parts;
🗼Yingxian Wooden Pagoda: Built in the second year of Qingning in the Liao Dynasty, it is the tallest ancient wooden structure in my country; it has stood for thousands of years; now only the first floor of the wooden pagoda can be visited; various plaques on each floor show the historical heritage of the wooden pagoda all the time;
🛕Hanging Temple; located in Hengshan, one of the Five Sacred Mountains, I have watched a documentary that describes in detail how it was built and why it has survived for more than 1,500 years;
👀It can be said that I have traveled N times; but when I stood on it in person, it was still quite shocking; and it is also rare A unique temple that combines Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism;
🛕Huayan Temple; the Great Hall and the Bhagavad Gita are the essence of the entire temple;
📍The Great Hall was first built in Liao, rebuilt in Jin, the Buddha statues inside were reshaped in Ming, and the murals around were painted in Qing; it has been continuously repaired and protected in various dynasties and has been preserved to this day; from the roof with the right Jin Dynasty and the left Ming Dynasty chiwen; to the five Buddhas, Arhats, and murals in the hall, they are all worth appreciating;
📍The "Three Buddhas" are enshrined in the Bhagavad Gita Hall: a total of 29 paintings, all of which are treasures from the Liao Dynasty. One of them is a Bodhisattva with his hands folded and smiling, which was praised by Mr. Guo Moruo as the "Oriental Venus". In addition to the beautiful Buddha statue in the middle, the more famous thing is the wooden wall around it; it is the only Liao Dynasty wooden structure model building in China, and was praised by the architectural master Mr. Liang Sicheng as "the only one in the country"
