Ta Keo is a classic example of Khmer architecture from the late 10th century. It was commissioned by King Jayavarman V and is notable for its large sandstone blocks and impressive construction. The temple is designed in a pyramid shape, with five tiered levels, which are meant to symbolize the mythical Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology.
We had a wonderful time walking around this temple, as like many it was found by accident.
Ta Keo temple was originally a Hindu temple given to the God Shiva, but as time progressed like many of the temples in Angkor Wat they transitioned in to Buddhist sites making it a multi-religious site which adds depth to it’s cultural significance.
