The historic CAVENAGH BRIDGE…

#singapore

One of the main foot bridges linking one side of the Singapore River to the other, the historic Cavanagh Bridge has been in use since the 1800s, perhaps a testament to the engineering standards of the British back then?

Stretching over the water between The Fullerton Hotel and the Asian Civilisations Museum, this well-preserved piece of solid steel stands as a reminder of our colonial past, and deserves an acknowledgement. But I do wonder if its significance is getting lost on tourists and locals alike who use the bridge merely as a scenic spot for pretty pictures… How many would take the trouble to read the informative signages? How many even know the name of the bridge?

It’s CAVENAGH. Let’s remember that.
