[Explore Singapore] Day Trip to Pulau Ubin

Born and bred in Singapore, I took everything we have for granted, and always yearned for the sense of freedom abroad.
It took a pandemic for me to take a closer look at everything Singapore has to offer. So here I was, traveling to Pulau Ubin for the first time in my life. It was just a 30-40min boat ride away, but it always felt distant.
Then I realised it was because of the time, not distance.
Pulau Ubin felt like it stayed in the 60s, where kampung houses were still the norm in Singapore. But I never knew what the 60s were, so how could I feel the nostalgia?
All I felt was warmth. Warmth from a day of cycling around the island. Warmth from climbing to the top of the viewing deck to look beyond the shore. Warmth from exploring the mangrove swamps. And warmth from the smiles of the residents.
All those digital amenities and conveniences of modern Singapore probably couldn’t beat the warmth of Pulau Ubin for these residents.
