A cool free photo check-in spot near the Merlion 🦁

My son and I really like this place. It’s beautiful, unique, stylish, and perfect for taking awesome photos. Plus, it’s free to visit.

This spot is at Padang Lawn in the Civic District (City Hall) in the heart of Singapore. The reflective spheres you see in the photo are an art installation called:

"Reflections of Our Past"

by Baet Yeok Kuan – a Singaporean artist.

🔎 This artwork consists of five polished stainless steel spheres of different sizes.

They are located on the Front Lawn of the National Museum of Singapore.

Each sphere reflects the historic buildings and surrounding environment on each side of the nearby buildings in a very cool way.

The purpose is to allow viewers to "reflect back on the nation’s history" — both visually and conceptually.

If you have time or enjoy history 🏛️, I highly recommend visiting here.

This place is Singapore’s historic Civic District, which includes important buildings such as:

National Museum of Singapore

St. Andrew’s Cathedral

Old Supreme Court

Padang (the field used for national celebrations)

So this artwork is not just decoration but carries deep meaning about remembering and learning from Singapore’s past.

🎧 Fun fact:

At certain times, there is an audio soundscape exhibition that plays sounds of Singapore’s history through these metal spheres when you stand close to them.

#Easy to get here by MRT to Bras Basah Station (Circle Line) or Dhoby Ghaut Station, then a short walk.

Or get off at Raffles Place Station, cross the street to find the One Fullerton Hotel, and a bit further you’ll reach City Hall.
