I’d like to share my experience of going on a 4-day 3-night cruise to Malaysia during the September school holidays.
📝 Before the Trip
1.Book early! At least 4 months in advance ⏳— cruises are very popular during the holidays. I chose the Genting Dream.
2.Bring some cash 💵
🚢 Itinerary
1.We set sail from Singapore. After the first night, we arrived in Penang. You can disembark here—there are lots of tour drivers at the pier. Just tell them what you want to see, eat, or buy, and they’ll take you around. (Tip: choose the drivers waiting inside the terminal corridor). Be sure to be back on board before 8 p.m. 🕗.
2.The next day, we reached Malacca. Here you need to take a short tender boat to shore. The main attractions are close by—we strolled around Jonker Street 🛍️, bought souvenirs, and soaked in the vibe. Return to the pier by 7:30 p.m. to catch the tender boat back.
🍴 Entertainment & Food
1.The ship has swimming pools 🏊, rock climbing 🧗, mini-golf ⛳, and evening theater shows. Kids absolutely loved it!
2.There are about 3–4 restaurants: buffet 🍽️, Chinese cuisine, etc. We rotated daily, but the kids always preferred the buffet.
3.We also booked a KTV session one night 🎤 All expenses go to your room card, and you settle the bill at the service counter on the last day.
⚠️ Things to Note
1.Bring sunscreen 🧴 and a sun umbrella 🌂—UV rays at sea are strong, and you can get sunburnt easily.
2.Don’t forget your shampoo! 🧼
3.Use a 20-inch carry-on suitcase 🧳—anything larger must be checked in and delivered to your cabin (same for disembarkation).
4.Pay attention to the time zone ⏰. The system might automatically switch to Indonesian time (1 hour difference).
✨ Final Thoughts: A cruise is actually a super convenient option for school holidays—no complicated itinerary planning, everything’s onboard, and the kids stay entertained. After 4D3N of fun, it’s just in time for the new school term to begin! 🎒📚
