If you plan to visit Peranakan Houses in Singapore, either for taking good photos or to enjoy the culture, there are things that you must know before visiting.
For those who want to visit this place, it is located around Joo Chiat Rd. It is quite far from the city center but you don't have to worry since the transportation is still very efficient. I went here using MRT and it was a smooth ride. However, you need to walk quite far from the closest MRT station (Marine Parade). I didn't count my steps but it should be around 20 mins walk to the location. However, you will see lots of cute buildings or cafes all the way to here so I can say you will have a wonderful walking experience.
The Peranakan Houses are really easy to spot on since they actually come in a long, stretching all the way on a road. You can see these houses either on the left or right side.
Here are the things, first, you must prepare that there will always be tourists that want to take photos here no matter what the day is. I visited on Sunday at 11pm and it was full of tourists. However, since the houses are plenty, you can actually still get photos easily. I recommend to come a little bit late since the sunlight actually didn't quite nice in the photos (I feel like my photos were dark).
Second, please mind your step whenever you want to take photos since the road is actually quite busy. There will always be cars and buses going back and forth so please make sure you are aware of them. The road is actually really close to traffic lamp so sometimes the cars can stop for quite long.
Third, these houses are not museums. These are real properties and the owners still live inside. Taking photo outside their houses are okay but please don't be too noisy and respect their area 🙏
Fourth, for girls who love to take photo with traditional clothes, you can take photos with peranakan's costume here. You can just rent it from the shop nearby (Peranakan Mansion by Straits Enclave).
Hopefully you have a good time there! 😆
