Huanglong Scenic & Historic Interest Area (Huanglong Valley, Sichuan, China) — what it is, what to see, how to visit, and tips to make the most of it.

Huanglong (“Yellow Dragon”) is a natural scenic area in Songpan County, Aba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, north‑western Sichuan Province.

The area is in the Minshan Mountains, at the transition zone between Sichuan Basin and the eastern edge of the Qinghai‑Tibet Plateau.

Elevations range from around 3,000 m and up; high peaks in the area reach over 5,500 m (e.g. snow‑capped summits) .

Huanglong is famous for its travertine (calcium carbonate) terraced pools, multi‑colored mineral ponds, waterfalls, limestone formations, forest ecosystems, snow mountains, and hot springs.

It is protected: UNESCO World Heritage site (since 1992), part of China’s Biosphere Reserves.
