Huanglong Scenic Area, located in Songpan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is a renowned World Natural Heritage Site in China. In winter, Huanglong's crystal-clear waters intertwine with the snow, creating a dreamlike, fairytale-like atmosphere. The scenic area blends alpine snowscapes, limestone terraces, and ancient Tibetan and Qiang culture, leaving every corner captivating. Winter is particularly popular, as fewer visitors allow for a tranquil experience of natural beauty, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
Recommended Itinerary:
It is generally recommended to enter the area at 8:00 AM, the morning opening time, and follow the main trail. First, take the Huanglong Scenic Area Cableway directly to the summit (55 Pingsong Road). This will save energy, and especially in winter, it's recommended to avoid long walks through the snow. Enjoy the magnificent snow scenery along the cableway. Upon arrival, walk to the core attraction, the Five-Colored Pond Observation Deck (Huanglong Scenic Area Five-Colored Pond), to admire the plateau scenery and Huanglong's uniquely colored pools. The snow-capped poolside creates a magical and captivating experience, making it a must-see. Finally, descend the mountain along the main trail, stopping to admire the travertine waterfalls, spiral pools, and emerald pools along the way.
Must-see attractions & photo spots:
1. Huanglong Five-Colored Pools: Under the winter snow, the colors of the Five-Colored Pools are even more vibrant, and the lake surface resembles emerald snow, creating a stunning photo opportunity.
2. Huanglong Cableway: Take the cableway for a bird's-eye view of the entire snowy valley, enjoying a unique perspective and excellent photo opportunities along the way.
3. Natural Scenic Spots, Such as Travertine Waterfalls and Spiral Pools: There are many beautiful scenic spots along the way, so you can stop and take photos at any time.
Tips:
1. Huanglong is at a high altitude (approximately 3,000 meters). It is recommended to start training a week in advance, bring anti-altitude sickness medication, get enough rest, and avoid strenuous exercise.
2. Winter temperatures are low, and the temperature difference on the mountain is significant. Please prepare a down jacket, hat, gloves, and other warm clothing. Ski boots are essential to avoid falls on the snow. 3. Maintain your energy: If you have limited stamina, take the cable car up the mountain. Walking down is a more relaxing option.
4. Smoking and open flames are prohibited throughout the scenic area. Please observe these regulations.
5. It is recommended to enter the mountain in the morning, as it gets dark early in winter. Returning in the afternoon is safer.
Notes:
- Tickets are 170 yuan per person purchased on-site. Reserving in advance can save time.
- Opening hours are 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM) from August 4th to October 31st, and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last admission at 4:00 PM) from November 1st to May 31st (the following year). Please choose a suitable time to visit based on the season.
- Signal reception may be poor in the mountains, so it is recommended to check transportation information and routes in advance to avoid delays.
Huanglong in winter is magnificent and magical. In addition to breathing in the pure plateau air, you can also enjoy the most natural blend of colors, a breathtaking sight not to be missed in western Sichuan.
