The beauty of Nordic public buildings---Stockholms stadsbibliotek

#MarchGoodPlaces2025

“Stockholms stadsbibliotek” This is the most famous public library in Sweden. There are huge cylinders standing on the orange rectangular cube. If you didn’t tell me it is a library, you would think it is a factory.

The Stockholm Library was designed by master Gunnar Asplund. It is a typical Nordic architectural style and represents the transition from classicism to modernism.

The library may look unremarkable from the outside, but its interior is stunning! The entire hall is the cylindrical part of the building, and the interior is completely surrounded by three-story circular bookshelves at 360 degrees. The light shines through the gaps between the books, which is quite beautiful.

The rectangular building below the cylindrical hall is planned to be divided into libraries and reading rooms with different themes; the open hall allows people to freely access the boundless sea of books.

Even if you don't come to read books, you can still appreciate Sweden's public aesthetics, take some photos, or have a cup of coffee and take a break.

The location is in the city center of Stockholm, just a 5-minute walk from the subway station, which is very convenient.
