Pop, Palaces, and Panoramas: A Stockholm City Break 🇸🇪 🧆

As Scandinavia and Sweden’s biggest city, it’s no surprise that Stockholm can quickly fill out a travel itinerary. Despite its size, the major attractions are concentrated in central Stockholm and can easily be reached on foot or via the extensive public transport system. Here are my recommendations for a weekend in Stockholm:

1️⃣ Gamla Stan
At the heart of Stockholm you will find the enchanting old town of Gamla Stan. Wander the cobblestone streets and get lost in the maze of narrow alleyways and hidden courtyards. Stop at one of the many cozy cafes or browse in some boutiques before checking out some of Stockholm’a best attractions. Within Gamla Stan, you can visit the Royal Palace, Stockholm Cathedral, and the Nobel Prize Museum.

2️⃣ The ABBA Museum
Book your ticket online and immerse yourself in the poptastic world of ABBA! It isn’t just a museum, it’s an interactive experience where you’ll learn about the music, style, and cultural impact of one of Europe’s most well-known pop groups!

3️⃣ Stockholm City Hall
One of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Stockholm City Hall offers a blend of history and culture to visitors. Join a guided tour to explore the building or climb to the top of the tower for unobstructed views of Stockholm and the surrounding islands.

4️⃣ Monteliusvägen
Monteliusvägen is one of the best viewpoints in Stockholm, loved by both locals and tourists. Sunrise is ideal for photography enthusiasts, but this is a great spot to visit any time of the day. If you are going in the afternoon, bring a picnic and enjoy the wonderful views!

❕Tip
Take a ‘free’ walking tour of Gamla Stan. You’ll learn a lot about the history of the old town and it is a great opportunity to get a feel for the city. It’s nice to leave a small tip at the end as the guides are usually students studying at a Stockholm-based university!

🏨 Where to Stay: For a short stay in Stockholm, I recommend staying at the ‘Comfort Hotel Xpress Stockholm Central’. The rooms are quite small but it’s affordable, close to Gamla Stan, and right next to the Arlanda express train.

🍞 Where to Eat
🧆 Meatballs for the People
🥪 Kladdkakan Café and Bistro
🍰 Chokladkoppen
