Lingquan Temple is more than 1,400 years old and was formerly known as Shengfo Temple and Zisheng Temple. According to the "Yudi Jisheng", Lingquan Mountain was built during the Sui Dynasty. After three days of fog, a stone statue of Shakyamuni appeared, and a temple was built, named Shengfo Temple.
Lingquan Temple is divided into two parts: the lower temple and the upper temple. The lower temple has 12 halls, including the Mahavira Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, the Wenchang Hall, and the Ancient Buddha Hall. The upper temple is located on the top of Lingquan Mountain and has nine halls, including the Guanyin Hall, the Patriarch Hall, and the Eye Light Hall, as well as the Guanyin Pavilion Temple.
There is an ancient well in the temple on the top of Lingquan Mountain. The water has never dried up for thousands of years and is clear and sweet. It is called "Lingquan". Su Dongpo wrote a poem praising it, and Lin Zexu wrote the words "Seven Springs" as evidence. Pilgrims often drink a cup of water here to pray for longevity.
Lingquan Temple is famous for its incense, surrounded by mountains and water, with ancient trees towering into the sky and beautiful scenery. It is known as the Holy Land of Lingquan. The Great Buddha Hand, the Three-faced Guanyin, and the Guanyin Pavilion are its prominent landmarks. The temple is easily accessible by public transportation. The entrance fee is CNY 35 per person, and locals are not charged.
