The historic Sumoto Hachiman Shrine

The founding year is unknown, but it is said to have been founded by Emperor Junnin in the Nara period, and a book of auspicious events states that it was founded in the second year of the Eijo era in the Heian period. It is a historic shrine that has been revered as the guardian deity of Sumoto Castle since the end of the Muromachi period. It is worshiped as a god of protection from misfortune and good fortune.
