The city of Surabaya gets its name from a 12th-century Indonesian legend: a shark (sura) and a crocodile (baya) were once good friends but later fought each other to the death, and their bodies washed ashore. The people who found them named the place SURABAYA. The most iconic event in Surabaya's history is the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945, when soldiers from eastern Indonesia came to join the largest revolutionary struggle here, which later became a symbol of the Indonesian resistance movement. Since then, Surabaya has been called the City of Heroes, and November 10th is celebrated as National Heroes Day.
Many people visit Surabaya as a transit or stopover point for trips to Mount Bromo, Mount Ijen, Mount Semeru, and the Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. In fact, as Indonesia's second-largest city, Surabaya has many attractions to explore and plenty of great hotels. This time, I stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton Surabaya, a mixed-use hotel sharing the same building with The Westin Surabaya, sharing various facilities and connected to Indonesia's largest shopping center. Everything you need for dining, entertainment, and fun is available, including a Haidilao hotpot!
The Pakuwon Four Points by Sheraton's Djaman Doeloe Resto & Bar offers a daily buffet dinner featuring local Indonesian specialties. Soiree Rooftop Bar Surabaya has a live DJ and vibrant music, making it very enjoyable to have a few drinks while admiring the city night view of Surabaya! The hotel's sixth-floor pool is divided into an adult pool and a children's pool, so traveling with kids can be very fun! Especially if you don’t want to wake up early, climb mountains, or hike, and just want a relaxed volcano trip, staying here is perfect. After breakfast at the hotel, you can head to Panorama Kapas Biru, where you can see both the Blue Cotton Waterfall and Mount Semeru at the same time. After taking photos and checking in, you can easily return to the hotel, making for a very relaxed and comfortable experience.
