Indonesia has many treasure destinations, with Bali, Bintan Island, and Jakarta being very popular travel spots. On the way from Surabaya Airport towards Bali, there are breathtaking volcanic landscapes hidden along the route. Among them, Mount Bromo once graced the cover of Lonely Planet magazine and is known as the Lonely Planet—giving a feeling of the edge of the world. It is definitely worth taking a sunrise volcano chase tour here.
If you want to stay a night in Surabaya before heading to the volcano, I highly recommend the Surabaya - Majapahit Hotel. This luxury hotel was founded in 1910 by the Armenian businessman Sarkies brothers and has a history of 114 years. The Sarkies family owns hotels across Southeast Asia, including Raffles in Singapore, Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang, Malaysia, Strand Hotel in Myanmar, and Oranje in Surabaya, Indonesia (named after the Dutch royal family, now Majapahit Hotel). Their luxury hotel alliance dominated the hotel industry in the colonial era for nearly fifty years.
The hotel building dates back to the Dutch colonial period, carrying the style of that era. It is hard to find another hotel in Surabaya, Indonesia with such historical depth and uniquely elegant style. The hotel is located in the city center of Surabaya, making shopping and strolling around very convenient. However, inside the hotel, a blend of modern and vintage vacation vibes is created, giving you a "peaceful the moment you enter" holiday experience. Despite being over a century old, the hotel's decor remains classic and timeless. Wandering through it, one can't help but marvel that the design from a hundred years ago is still pleasing to the eye and possesses a timeless charm!
